BIP SXM attended WIPO's 68th Assemblies in Geneva

The Director of the Bureau for Intellectual Property Sint Maarten (the Bureau/BIP SXM) attended the Sixty-Eighth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 7 to 15, 2026. She participated alongside colleagues from the Netherlands and Curaçao, together representing the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The annual WIPO Assemblies provide an important platform for Member States to review WIPO's work, discuss priorities for the international intellectual property system, and strengthen cooperation among intellectual property offices worldwide.

"As a small island, it is essential that we remain connected to the global intellectual property community. Every discussion, partnership, and shared experience helps us identify opportunities to strengthen our own IP ecosystem and better serve the people of Sint Maarten," the Director said.

Throughout the Assemblies, the Director exchanged perspectives with representatives from around the world, gained insights into emerging developments, and strengthened relationships with regional and international partners. These engagements support the Bureau's ongoing commitment to enhancing intellectual property services and promoting innovation, creativity, and sustainable economic growth in Sint Maarten.

Learning about developments across the global intellectual property landscape also provides an opportunity to reflect on what works, what can be adapted, and what is most relevant for a small island developing state such as Sint Maarten.
