BIP SXM Continues to Strengthen Its IP Services

BIP SXM continues to advance its efforts to strengthen intellectual property (IP) services through modernization, regional cooperation, and improved accessibility for users. These developments reflect the Bureau’s ongoing commitment to supporting innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship in Sint Maarten.

Continued Collaboration with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP)

BOIP remains a key strategic and technical partner of BIP SXM in the area of trademark administration and system development. In February 2026, BIP SXM, together with BOIP, proudly launched its fully digital trademark e-filing system. This marked an important step in improving the efficiency and accessibility of trademark services for applicants and representatives in Sint Maarten.

The introduction of e-filing strengthens the user experience by enabling a more streamlined and modern application process. It also reflects the continued cooperation between both offices in enhancing IP services and aligning practices with international developments.

Beyond digital filing, the partnership with BOIP continues to focus on knowledge exchange, institutional strengthening, and the long-term development of a resilient IP framework for Sint Maarten.

Engagement with the Netherlands Patent Office

BIP SXM met with representatives of the Netherlands Patent Office, which is the authority responsible for the processing of patent applications for Sint Maarten within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

During the engagement, discussions focused on ongoing cooperation in the field of patent administration, as well as continued support for capacity building and knowledge sharing. The Netherlands Patent Office remains an important partner in ensuring the effective functioning of the patent system applicable to Sint Maarten.

This collaboration enables BIP SXM to continue facilitating access to the patent system for local inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses, while strengthening awareness of the value of patent protection within the community.

BIP SXM remains committed to further enhancing IP services through strong partnerships and continuous improvement.
